Structural fill is a screened earthen material used to create a strong and stable base. For example, the native soil at a site may be too weak to support a structure, so the soil is replaced by compacted structural fill to provide the needed structural support. In roadway applications, structural fills are often used as fill for abutments or slabs, backfill for retaining structures, or filling of trenches and other excavations that will support roadways or other structures when completed.
Our sand is a unprocessed/unwashed material mined from multiple locations in the Greater Houston Area. Generally, our sand will meet specifications which require that no more than 15% of the sand pass through a #200 sieve meaning that the sand is relatively free of fine grained silts and clays.
This type of sand is often used for filling low areas and raising elevation. It is good for filling lawn areas that are low since grass grows very well in this type of sand. Therefore, this sand is recommended as a base layer to prep for grass installation. Also, it is used to fill material or to build a base and leveling concrete.
This type of sand is used for smoothing rough graded areas prior to sod or concrete placement.
Select Fill is a special material used most often with building pads. Occasionally, it will be used for trench backfill. Select Fill is usually a mix of clay and sand that is dug and tossed to get a consistent mix, so that when worked and compacted, the material will pass required testing for engineer specifications on building pads.
Our clay can come in a variety of different colors and consistencies because it is mined from multiple locations. Applications for clay would typically be on projects where a highly cohesive soil is required to limit penetration of water or to limit erosion in certain areas. However, clay can be used in many other applications where high plasticity is not of concern.
Our topsoil is an unscreened/unprocessed material generally mined from soils occurring within the top 6 to 18 inches of natural ground. This unscreened topsoil is a cost effective product that provides some of the organic qualities of a more expensive screened product. However, being that it is an unscreened/unprocessed product it may contain some impurities in the form of clay clods or small roots.
